TOLEDO, OH - Frank Martin, 25, has long been a student of the world. An admirer of both art and science, psychology and humor, Martin considers himself to be pretty level-headed and even mildly intelligent. Yet he is unable to understand the confusing antics of his love interest, Susan Harsche, 22. Despite this, he still considers himself to be quite smitten with her.
The trouble started a few weeks ago, when-- after a long friendship and awkward courtship-- Harsche finally confessed her love to Martin. They spent the night together, and parted ways for a few days.
"I was really excited about the possibilities of this relationship," said Martin. "I even cleaned my shower and laundered my sheets. It’s not like they were that dirty or anything. It just seemed like, you know, she’s a really great young woman and everything."
Eagerly anticipating their next meeting, Martin was quite pleased when Harsche suggested they spend some time together on Thursday. They ate dinner, had a couple of drinks, and went for a walk.
"We were both looking at the sunset, and I put my arms around her. I then moved my hand onto her belly. She has a really soft belly, and I like they way it feels. But she totally flipped out. She said, ‘What the hell are you doing?’"
Harsche then explained that they weren’t dating, and that he shouldn’t be touching her.
"I tried scratching my head like they do in the movies, but I still couldn’t figure out what was happening," said Martin.
Martin admitted that he knew she was going through some difficult issues, but said that he would still pine for her, as he felt she was worth it. He then confessed that he was temporarily unsure of what the word "pine" meant, and that he had always thought that the sky appeared blue, and that the direction directly opposite the ground was considered to be "up". But with his current situation, he wasn’t so sure of these things anymore.
