Puppy dogs, kittens, starry skies, and hand claps, oh my! Why is it that decent boys and girls are always the first to get their hearts broken? "This is a simple story of boy loses girl,..." Not the type of emo I’d go out looking for, but would stop at the record store and buy if I were driving in my car, listening to college radio, thinking “Yeah” to myself, and nodding my head in time with the music.
Quiet, Lovely's Automata, Musica reminds me of listening to Modest Mouse’s It’s a Long Drive With Nothing to Think About, while the rain beats down my window pane. It’s a feeling of warmth in the chilly Autumn air, but instead on a humid, mid-Summer night. A reminder for that nice girl who just got dumped by her asshole boyfriend, that there truly are sweet guys who would care about her. Those guys are just too shy to say anything.
But, girls, don’t get trapped in Quiet, Lovely’s lyrics! Go out and say something to that quiet boy in the background! Don’t "...wait around to see if things change,” and let your jerky ex-boyfriend smoke the last 1/8 of your heart.
I imagine seeing Quiet, Lovely open for someone like Clem Snide or Elliott Smith, and the only person digging it is that boy in the sweater with the kitten sewn on it. Personally, I couldn't stand through their entire set without retreating to the bar. But at a quiet sit-down venue-- like their name suggests-- it would be a lovely evening. If only someone could find a boy to hold my hand during the show.
BE QUIET AND LOVELY HERE.
