If the Teen Idols were to build a time machine, travel back to the early 1980s, open a punk rock summer camp, and allow No Doubt to be counselors, they’d probably have three campers named Manda, Joe A. Damage, and Mark Slak in their ranks. These three youngsters would take what they learned from the brash and smash Teen Idols and the oh-so-poppy No Doubt and form a band years later called Manda and the Marbles.
Yes, a female-fronted pop punk band. No, they don’t sound like The Donnas. They sound like the perfect band for any teenage girl looking for something a little more ferocious than Crustina Haguilera or Clitney Spears. And the perfect band for a 25-year-old tastes like chicken staffer whose musical guilty pleasure is listening to No Doubt.
I know I’ll get a relentless amount of shit for having fun listening to this record, but slams be damned! If you’re me-- or a young girl looking for a musical something that seamlessly blends Debbie Gibson and Sick of it All-- Manda and the Marbles’ More Seduction is the shit!
It starts off totally rockin’, teases you with some slower-tempoed numbers, then kicks you back in your newly pubed groin with more full steam ahead tunes. I would totally be the guy buying this at the store, explaining to the cashier that, “This is for my niece. She’s 13.” Yeah, I’d be lying, but I have to try and maintain some level of toughness, right?
So, check the disc out. Check out a show. You won’t see me at one unless I’m:
A) Hooking up with Miss Manda.
B) Hooking up with someone of legal age.
