My religion is rock 'n' roll. It consists of a community of people who can feel the touch of sound. Our sanctuaries are constantly changing when venues get shut down or prophets skip our town. We patrons keep the sound alive by getting out of our houses and entering an environment that can move our very souls.
Dub Narcotic Sound System and Old Time Relijun-- both off indie rock leader K Records-- were united for tour when tragedy struck. Dub Narcotic Sound System was forced to cancel the remainder of their tour due to a motor accident outside of rural Montana. Members Calvin and Chris sustained injuries that required hospitalization, and the tour van was damaged significantly. K Records set up a fund that is accepting donations to defray the cost of medical attention, for being a musical prophet doesn't offer much in the way of health insurance. But if we members of the Church of Rock 'n' Roll want to keep the music pumping through our veins, we can help out by donating to the Dub Narcotic medical fund (see below).
Because of this change in plans, members in attendance just had to rock out twice as hard. DJ I Am The Killer filled the space of the Texas Ballroom with his favorite picks so completely, the sound entered my body, and I couldn't help but move. Then the sound filled my bloodstream, and Old Time Relijun took control of my senses. After losing their tourmates, they did not dwell in the loss, but insisted that we celebrate, not twice or three times as hard, but four times as hard.
The crowd was an intimate size, making room for this girl to dance her little heart out. It was a joy for someone who grew up on The Pixies and Femmes to enter a room filled with experimental beats and vocals, and witness others that had the same urge to move. There is nothing better than confirming your existence by having some sort of healthy stimulant awaken your senses.
