We keep hearing from the media that the economy is gaining strength and improving, but there are no tangible results. According to US Treasury Secretary John Snow, the US economy is, "...showing signs of vigor, but more work needs to be done to ensure that the recovery is self-sustaining." We have been hearing these types of statements for months now, but continue to see huge layoffs and decreases in salaries and benefits. It seems to be getting worse, not better.
Due to Bush's ridiculous economic policies digging our deficit deeper and deeper (As of 10/22, the federal debt is at $374.2 billion, making my $2000 credit card debt look like chump change.), and have caused the country's unemployment rate to skyrocket to a nine year high. Why should we put trust into a president that tells us that our economy is safe, when we know that he's lied to us before? Especially when our economy is the driving force of us surviving. It just seems to me that he is lying again, telling us that the economy will gain strength with him in office, just to gain votes.
Is it odd for a politician to promise things to his country that he cannot generate, just to win them over? I'd say it's the American Way.
The fact that Bush recently asked us to cough up another $87 billion for the efforts in Iraq is astounding. To ask us, a country that has already been wounded and is bleeding to death, to stand up and take care of another country absolutely insane. Why should we be expected to put money into another country that we just spent billions to bomb the fuck out of, when we can't even afford to put our country's economy and people in a better situation?
Bush claims that his numerous tax cuts are saving the US economy. But if you look closer, each move he's made has scored one more point for the rich, leaving the middle class (if there even is one anymore) and lower class with their hands empty. Cuts on property taxes (And who owns property? The rich.) means the money has to come from somewhere else. So our schools get cuts, or there's ten less garbage trucks in your city, which means ten less garbage men with jobs. He is helping his friends; the ones who helped steal the election for him and put him in office to protect their millions. He is not helping us. You scratch my back, I scratch yours. You give me money and your vote in my campaign, I make sure other people suffer and you benefit from it.
There is an unfortunate elite of corporate dicks and powerful rich white men formed within our administration who don't give a shit about us, the real people. The people who are supporting those fuckers by working under them for a fraction of a percent of what they make. It's fucking bullshit. People think that we have a scary government because Bush doesn't know what the hell he's doing. But the scary thing is that he knows exactly what he's doing, and he's getting away with it. God help us all.
