Dear Kelis,
Wow! It's been, like, four years since your first album. Now here you are on your third! It's too bad that neither of the first two were released in the States. I'm sure that means they were totally awesome, not totally lame. I was sooo impressed by your innovative lyrical genius in "Caught Out There": "...I hate you so much right now! Aaaargh!" I mean-- just, wow!
And now your new album, Tasty, has the song "Milkshake". It is so the newest best song ever! The whole song is almost entirely you repeating, "My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard / And they're like, ‘It's better than yours.’" Just listening to it makes me feel like a really strong, empowered woman. It totally proves what your press release says about you being "distinctly pro-female".
Second only to that cleverness is the chorus that goes, "Let's get it on in public," in the song called (duh!) "In Public". There's something so inspiring about your songs. The beats are so minimal and repetitive, it's brilliant! It almost reminds me of the built-in beats my Casio used to play. And your lyrics? I don't think I can pick out one song on this album with more than 50 different words in it. You make it so easy for me to learn your poetry-- which is helpful when I'm getting my groove on at the club. I don't know how other (lesser) artists expect me to keep track of fine young hunks across the dance floor and their superfluous lyrics all at the same time! Girlfriend, your music is just my speed. No wonder your music is, "...already ranked among the year's top party jams!"
I think what sums you up best is the fold-out that comes with Tasty. The way you're all spread-out, mostly naked, and looking seductively into the camera,... Honey, you are the epitome of liberated women! No exploitation here! Hopefully, you will become a role model to young girls everywhere. I even like how you sign "Kelis was here - XOXO" with a big heart. You certainly have left your mark on me.
