Love hip-hop? Too poor to buy turntables and a closet full of vinyl? No problem! You got a mouth, right? (Sorry if you don’t.) That’s all you need.
Welcome to Beatboxing 101. Meet your professor, possessor of a doctorate in the oral boom-bap, Rahzel. He is The Human Beatbox-- undisputed heavyweight beatbox champion, or something like that. Your textbook for this course? Rahzel’s Greatest Knockouts. For 26 tracks, you’ll follow Professor Rahzel as he collaborates with all of your favorite hip-hop notables, literally spitting out the kick and the snare while these world famous MCs rhyme over top of it.
Yes, it’s a mix tape. Actually, it’s the first ever beatbox mix tape I’m aware of. And if you have apprehensions about a 26-track album featuring a human beatbox, naysay no more. Hearing him work his magic while Slick Rick rhymes will give you some old school Doug E. Fresh flashbacks. Then there’s an insane Funkmaster Flex interlude, where Flex plays no background music for his show, and just lets Rahzel go wild instead. And bringin’ tears to even the hardest of hardcore eyes, he collaborates with the incomparable Supernatural on a "Live Tribute to Jam Master Jay".
Keep in mind as you’re listening to this that the majority of what’s been recorded on this album was made with a mouth. A mouth! Think about it-- and I mean really think about it-- and you’ll like this record that much more.
