DONE WAITING

So, you're an indie band. You've got a van, a nice bass line, and a taste for groupies. Now what? Well, if you're smart, you'll get to know the fine folks at donewaiting.com. donewaiting.com was started by Robert Duffy, who found himself leaving the sunny coast of San Francisco and landing in Columbus, Ohio, checking out the local music scene, and slowly becoming a fan and advocate. Done Waiting has become an ever-growing network of music fans-- from Columbus, to Chicago, to as far as England-- who follow scenes of all sorts, and drive reviews and news for the masses online.
To quote Tank Boy, the Chicago-based contributor: "The site is unique in that there is no central vision or agreement on 'what is good and what isn't', a la Pitchfork, Tiny Mixtapes, or those sorts of sites. I love those sites and enjoy their centralized editorial vision, but I prefer a more rabble-rousing bunch that isn't afraid to disagree with each other or champion the occasional pop band."
The other beauty of this particular web group is, not only do they maintain a site, but they've also started a series of "Field Studies" tours-- shows that combine Done Waiting bands from two areas, pitting local faves together with new-to-town groups. By arranging the shows in this fashion, Duffy notes, "It really showcases the great stuff going on in the local scene, while giving the bands from other cities a built-in fan base."
Tank Boy adds, "I was booking a local club, and I realized how difficult it is for out-of-town bands to get gigs. With Done Waiting, we automatically have a number of people involved in a number of music scenes who can help each other out and get good music out to the people,.. where it belongs. So bands win, fans win, clubs win-- everybody wins!"
And, rock gods be praised, the Done Waiting Field Studies Tour is heading to a Midwest city near you this fall. Get your rock gear ready and toddle your booty out to catch 'em:
