The album Paisley and Twee is a compilation containing 26 little ditties showcasing the "talents" of Elekibass, The Poison Control Center, Ryan Anderson, and The Red Pony Clock. Let’s break this album down, group by group.
The first five songs are forced on us by Elekibass. Imagine if the Beatles were retarded, tone-deaf, Asian surf musicians, recording in a basement on a cassette recorder. Definitely worth a laugh, but it’s only funny for about the first minute. Then it enters the realm of just plain pathetic.
Songs six thru twelve were performed by The Poison Control Center. The first song, "Actress In Disguise", had an almost Cure-ish feel to the music, which gave me an inkling of hope. It was wishful thinking on my part. The next song was regurgitated, psychedelic, out-of-tone Brit pop, and The Poison Control Center maintained that style for the next four songs. But I would like to go on record as saying they are definitely the best thing about this album. They might even be better if they were taken out of the context of this record. Then again,...
The next seven song-type things were delivered courtesy of Ryan Anderson. He sounds like a whiney, no-talent, artsy-fartsy college kid who sits around coffee shops, chain-smoking in his little beret and scarf, downing cup after cup of espresso, complaining about not having any friends, and how all the kids used to beat him up on the playground. I don’t think I like him very much.
And last, but certainly not least, is The Red Pony Clock, who felt obligated to give us the last seven peanuts in this turd. They have a sense of humor, I’ll give them that,.. but nothing else. They literally sound like a bunch of hillbillies that got really drunk, broke into a high school music room one night, and made the rest up as they went along. Unfortunately, they were being recorded. You just cannot imagine how bad these guys are.
My two cents? Not good. Don’t waste your time, and definitely don't waste your money on this when you can listen to mentally handicapped kids sing, or recordings of people dying painful deaths.
