CAMBRIDGE, ENGLAND - Astrophysicist Stephen Hawking continues to recover from various injuries in a Cambridge hospital.
The famed author and Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge University has displayed numerous signs of abuse since his marriage to Jane Hawking in 1995. Nurses, fearing they would be accused of assaulting Mr. Hawking, have kept a journal detailing the nature and timing of his wounds. Such "mysterious" injuries include cuts, bruises, and a broken wrist.
Hawking-- who speaks with a voice box since a 1985 tracheotomy-- stated, "The stories in the media are completely false. My wife and I love each other very much, and it is only because of her that I am alive today."
When officials asked him where his black eye came from, Hawking's voice box replied, "I fell down the stairs." Hawking was then asked how he received the wrong medication while a staff of professional nurses watched over him. Hawking again pressed the button programmed to say, "I fell down the stairs."
