\"Ding, ding!\"
That\'s the familiar intro tone of the long-ass-running drama Law & Order. Actually, it might be a \"donk, donk\" sound. No matter. Fact is, this show has been running for so long that the creators had to make three separate shows: Law & Order, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
Instead of reviewing all three, I\'ll review my favorite of the bunch: Special Victims Unit (SVU), or, as I like to call it, \"heinous crimes\". Not that I don’t enjoy the other two. Hell, I love the intensity of Criminal Intent\'s Detective Robert Goren. He’s so intense, he’s intense in his sleep! But, I most enjoy the twisted plots of SVU.
SVU is in its fifth season, and the cop/courtroom drama deals with crimes of sensitive and unusual nature. Each episode starts off with either a newly discovered dead or nearly dead body. I always hate when I miss the first five minutes, because the beginning is crucial to understanding the entire episode.
Every episode is chock-full of twists, too, with at least one between each commercial break! In this \"whodunit\" drama, sometimes it is the person you least expect. And sometimes, the reasons and people involved in the crime are more interesting than who actually committed it.
All the clever characters on the show are enjoyable for me, too. I like the fact that the show\'s plots do not get overly personal with the characters; just enough to show how the characters are affected emotionally, and how they must put their emotions aside, usually with their smart-ass wit. Sweet Detective Olivia and the ruggedly handsome Detective Elliot take center stage. Weird looking guy Detective Munch is partnered with Detective Ice-T. We also have doctors, captains, A.D.A.s, and some other characters who represent every race and creed-- everyone you need in order to solve seriously heinous crimes.
If you haven’t seen, and thus been \"shocked and awed\" by, SVU yet, I suggest you check it out on your local NBC affiliate every Tuesday night at 10/9 Central.
