Holy time warp, children of the Earth. What\'s the year on the calendar? 2004? Really? Damn... I feel like I just stepped off the Soul Train. I shouldn’t even be using a computer while listening to this album, it seems so out of place. They didn’t have computers like this back in the day that this album takes you to.
Love Shines is a throwback to the days when all you had to do to get a pretty lady over to your bachelor pad was put on a little Teddy P. (If you don\'t know which Teddy P. I’m talking about, you need to go back to school!) A throwback to a sound that pulls the funk, soul, and R&B your mom or dad played when you were a kid: Maze; Earth Wind and Fire; hell, even a little Sly and the Family Stone. Maybe that’s because of the resumes that Big Advice’s players have: singer/drummer Ahaguna G. Sun played with cats like Maze and Teddy Pendergrass (That’s the Teddy P. I was talkin’ about!); Werner Schuchner worked his guitar for The Whispers and The Soul Train Gang, among others; and bassist Juan Nelson, the newest name of the bunch, comes to Big Advice as Ben Harper’s Innocent Criminal bass player.
Love Shines is the perfect throwback for anyone who\'s ever listened to any of the bands mentioned above. And while Big Advice does add its own flavor to the mix-- a little jazz, a little Caribbean drummin\'-- Love Shines is pretty... oh, so pretty enough to make you feel like Don Cornelius himself just introduced it to you.
