Picture this: You\'re at a Bad Religion concert. You wait with anticipation as you see five figures enter the dimly lit stage. Softly, they play \"Overture\", the instrumental from their new album, The Empire Strikes First. You wonder where Greg Graffin is. The end of the tune approaches, and here he comes... BAM! It\'s the beginning of the anthemic \"Sinister Rouge\". Your body begins to whip around in a manic frenzy, and will continue to do so for another hour.
Yeah, The Empire Strikes First is that exciting, my friends. Once I heard \"Sinister Rouge\", I knew these guys weren’t messing around. Every song perfectly leads into the next. This album further proves that when Bad Religion makes a record, they make sure the entire album is a piece of art, rather than being mostly average with a few good songs tossed in the mix. In other words, this album takes you for a ride that will keep you wanting more.
The always-political Bad Religion are out to devour this crooked American administration, and will be using The Empire Strikes First to pick their teeth of Dubya meat. On \"Let Them Eat War\" (with a guest rap by Sage Francis, which works surprisingly well) they talk about the irony of President Bush using the war to get votes from the poor, while using his policies to support the extremely rich. That song alone makes me think that everyone who buys this album should burn a copy and send it straight to the White House.
The Empire Strikes First has all the qualities of a great Bad Religion record, and is actually better than The Process Of Belief, largely because of its rich lyrical content. I can honestly say they delivered what I know the fans are looking for: great, clean guitar crunch; powerful lyrics; clever melodies; trademark harmonies; and the sonic blast that is Greg Graffin\'s voice. And the best song title ever? \"Boot Stamping On A Human Face Forever\".
Seriously, you could put this album on repeat for about five hours. That might have something to do with me believing that Bad Religion is the best band in the world! But I’d be willing to bet it’s also because this is just a damn good album. Strike back, and pick this up on June 8th!
