When I say \"Detroit music\", what do you immediately think of? The White Stripes? True. Iggy Pop? Yeah, I can see that. The Von Bondies? I suppose you\'re right. But what about Times Beach Records (TBR)? Haven\'t heard of them? Well, you should. Because if you like good music, chances are TBR has something for you.
Who would have thought that a two-year young, small label based out of Detroit, Michigan would offer such a wide range of choices in music? Dig folk? Check out Audra Kubat. Dig minimal, loud-as-fuck punked up rock? Give MAN Incorporated a listen. Are you a fan of some sexy hard rocking? Pick up a CD by The Hentchmen. And if none of that floats your goat, chances are you\'ll find something you like, as they\'ve got a little bit of everything in between.
America\'s sweetheart and TBR publicity machine, Becki Carr, states, \"We just try to find good stuff that needs to be heard, especially here in Detroit. All the focus has been on garage bands lately, and there\'s so much other good shit here.\"
And she\'s right. She wouldn\'t lie to me. Believe me, I could blackmail her if she did. Honest.
So, if you\'re like me, you enjoy happening across new things to open your ears to. And if you value my opinion (which I can\'t see why you wouldn\'t), you\'ll check out some of the artists on the little label that could.
Times Beach Records isn\'t about pushing a genre of music into people\'s ears. They\'re about good music, no matter what genre it happens to fall into.
