One of the few things that I miss about Columbus, Ohio, besides the friends I left behind, is a little place called Bernie’s Distillery. Buried in a dirty basement, Bernie\'s sold bagels during the day on one side, and at night, barely contained the crashing guitars and screaming vocal chords of bands playing on the other. You were guaranteed to see a few good bands every time you set foot in the place. You were also guaranteed to see and smell things you\'d never experienced before under that low ceiling of sticker-plastered exposed pipes.
I mention Bernie’s because The Hunches’ Hobo Sunrise catches the spirit and power of one of those great hardcore shows there. It reminds me of those days when beer bottles would vibrate off the table and shatter on the floor from the sheer noise of the band. Hell, maybe I\'d even seen The Hunches there, forgetting their name in the ringing ears that would invariably last for the next couple days.
If you’ve ever been to Bernie’s or have a place like it in your town you know what I’m talking about. You also know the kinds of killer bands that I’m talking about. The Hunches are one of them.
