MOS DEF - THE NEW DANGER

The New Danger is a lot of things that I’m not really going to mention, because it really doesn’t matter. They’re secondary reasons why you should listen to this album. All that’s really important is the one major reason: the record is genuinely inspirational. That alone should make you spin this in your player. I mean, when was the last time you listened to an album that was actually inspiring? That’s what I thought.
Just like with with Black On Both Sides (Mos\' first album, for those of you not in the know), The New Danger is an experience akin to flipping through your favorite painter’s sketchbook or your favorite author’s diary. It’s boundless, unlimited creativity, pure and raw. It’s thought, opinion, and emotion built into some of the fiercest rock, funkiest soul, dirtiest blues, and most beautiful hip-hop you’ve heard in a while. At the same time, it’s about as hard to categorize as it gets.
The New Danger is Mos Def, plain and simple. Mos Def being himself, doing whatever feels right, and inspiring you as a result. You don’t just listen to a record like this. You experience it-- feel it. And that doesn’t happen all that often.
