Let’s be ironic and review these two together, shall we? Because, politics of the business aside, they are pop stars in the modern rap game-- names that all the kids recognize. Beef, or no beef.
But if beef must be served, and sides must be chosen, make mine Luda.
The main reason: Luda is the better MC, by far. Though his subject matter is typically relegated to the same bling/badass/bitches schtick that Chingy (and 90% of modern rap radio) sticks to, his delivery and ability far surpass Chingy’s lazy, mediocre drawl. Truthfully, Ludacris could be one of the greatest MCs ever, if he spent more time making soulful songs like \"Child Of The Night\" (featuring Nate Dogg) instead of the usual topically vacant fire he spits.
Despite this obvious upper hand, Powerballin\' and The Red Light District are neck and neck when it comes to production and guest spots. Luda has a handful of producers giving him a canvas to paint on, including the incomparable Timbaland (\"The Potion\"), Organized Noise (\"Blueberry Yum Yum\"), and The Medicine Men (\"Get Back\")-- a lot of really fresh shit that gets your body drunk on movement. But Chingy\'s got some sonic hot shit, too. While most of it was produced by The Trak Starz, David Banner (\"All The Way To St. Lou\"), Vudu (\"Leave Wit Me\"), and The Beatstaz (\"Give \'Em Some Mo\") also drop in for a track or two.
Likewise, the cameos on each disc are pretty equal adversaries. Chingy scored Janet Jackson (I’m not kidding), R. Kelly (a.k.a. \"Johnny Jailbait\"), David Banner, and Nate Dogg, to name a few. Nate Dogg also pops in on Luda\'s disc, as did DMX, DJ Quick, Doug E. Fresh, and Nas. Yes, Nas.
So, if you gotta listen to the radio, or watch MTurdV, pray that at least one of these knuckleheads will be on it. And if you’re me, you’re gonna ask for a little more Ludacris.
