Ooo, goddamn! I\'ve got to admit to you that I don\'t know if I\'m even supposed to review this or not, but it\'s so damn good that I\'ve got to!
Last month I told you about the magic that is aeon grey and Angle, who are a couple of MCs from Iowa (which I\'m convinced is the new motherland of hip-hop).
This month I got a copy of A+9 Records: Angels And Androids, which is, essentially, a mixtape of even more talent, some of which is from Iowa. grey is there with \"Animatronics\" and \"July 10th\", which are both great tracks. But now a few new kids are thrown into the mix, as well.
The Iowa-born Skylar Johnson is a lyrical wonder, and his tag-team (\"Ants\") with grey is just amazing. And don\'t even get me started on his solo track, \"Bring It Back\", which I fell instantly in love with the second I heard the first beat. Seriously, Skylar spits and trips over a simple piano ballad track, and it\'s one of the most simple yet beautiful things I\'ve heard all year. If Skylar continues in this vein, he\'ll be absolutely unstoppable.
The Pseudo Sleep Project keeps my senses aware and my feet tapping with a couple tracks of brooding beats and orchestral synth samples. And Luke Geraty is yet another surprise from this disc. Geraty\'s \"Get Down\" is a revolutionary call to do just that. And if you can make it to the end of the song without doing so, you\'ve got some serious problems, ya square!
So, again, I\'m not really sure if this is an official release, or if it\'s just a nice mix of the talent they have to offer and they\'re using the disc to get the word out to the media. Either way, I don\'t give a fuck what it is, because it\'s some of the best new stuff being made. So check out all the artists mentioned above, and get in on the new shit now before everyone else is all up on their dicks in six months.
And don\'t wait to hear it on your local radio station, or see it on MTV. Everyone knows the radio and MTV only play shit, and this stuff is way above both.
