As many of you know, my daughter Tina was on her way to becoming one of the greatest American journalists of the 21st Century. Her column, \"The Shia Mailbag\", was an inspired example of the passion one can possess when touched by the true majesty of another’s art.
Sadly, however, it was that very same passion that catalyzed her passage from living legend to remembered icon. For on Thursday, January 28th, 2005, my loving daughter was taken from this world.
Tina’s short life came to a tragic end when her healthy teenage heart quite literally exploded. Doctors remain baffled by the situation that befell her, but you and I both know it was her overwhelming love and admiration for young Shia LaBeouf that forced her heart to swell beyond capacity.
And it is only fitting that, as she passed, Shia’s interview-- once the #1 most-read story on tastes like chicken-- fell backwards to #2. Proof positive that she alone championed that young man and his conversational wisdom to the pedestal on which he and his interview rested.
I encourage you all to email the staff members of tastes like chicken, and offer your condolences. They gave her a chance when no one else would accept her. They believed in her wild idea, because they recognized her genuine passion. And they, much like my wife and I, are suffering a loss too tragic for perfect words.
I thank you, and God bless.
