Okay, guys (I’m sure no girls actually read this column), here’s my dirty little secret: I am not a comic book collector. I hate, hate, hate having boxes and boxes of comics piling up in my office, in my closets, and all over my house. I don’t like the way I’ve got to carefully handle the fragile shitty paper of original issues if I want to re-read a story from a few years ago. I would much rather have a bookshelf or two stocked with trades and graphic novels that I could easily reference and pull out whatever story I wanted to read whenever I want to. Plus, it would eliminate those atrocious looking white boxes from taking up space on my floor.

After months of pondering (nearly a year, actually) I’ve finally decided to go ahead and sell off my collection of comics, save for a few pieces that are actually close to my heart, and use the money to buy the stuff I actually want in trade format. The best way I’ve come up with to do that is to go on eBay and throw whatever I can up there.

Now, I’ve never used eBay to sell stuff before, but it’s really my only choice. Comic shops hardly buy people\'s collections anymore, and they’ve got a good reason. As I’m sure any of you that frequent a comic book store have noticed, they’ve already got a shit-ton of old comics that nobody’s buying now! I’m sure there are some hardcore losers who raid the back-issue bins every once in a while, but I’ll bet that’s few and far between. My only hope now is to start some auctions and hope there are some comic fans who want the 14-part Spider-Man crossover event \"Maximum Carnage\". And I’m willing to sell cheap.

I’m even getting rid of some stuff I really cared about at the time I was buying it. Like the Captain America and Hulk reboots from the late Nineties, both illustrated by one Ron Garney. I loved that dude’s stuff, but it’s been sitting in a box for more than three years and I don’t think I’ll ever care to look at it again. It’s not that I now think it’s bad. My tastes have just changed and I’m looking at different stuff.

So if any of you out there are in the market for some comics, drop me a line and what you’re into, and I’ll see what I can hook you up with. My collection is primarily from the early Nineties through today, and I have a pretty broad range of interests. If not, look for me on eBay. I’ll be the one crying and begging. If only I had a Cheeto that looked like Superman….
