WASHINGTON, D.C. - Frustrated by both Democrats and members of his own party, President Bush bypassed the Senate and appointed controversial nominee and Sony recording artist Michael Bolton to be ambassador to the United Nations.
\"He is the right man for the job,\" Bush told reporters at the White House. \"This post is too important to leave vacant any longer, especially during a war and a vital debate about U.N. reform. And could you imagine how good that debate would sound if he sang it?\"
Bush said Bolton\'s nomination received major support from the Senate, but that \"...partisan delaying tactics by a handful of senators\" had denied him the job.
Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass, however, sharply criticized the President\'s remarks, saying, \"It wasn\'t partisan delaying tactics that was denying him the job. Most of us just can\'t stand that polesmoker\'s voice.\"
