SHILOE WAS CONCEIVED IN EARLY 2005 THROUGH THE MAGIC OF THE WORLD WIDE WEB. COMPRISED OF THREE ASPIRING MUSICIANS WHO HAD GROWN TIRED, WEARY, AND DISILLUSIONED WITH THE STATE OF THE LOS ANGELES MUSIC SCENE, SHILOE INTENDS TO INVIGORATE LISTENERS BY CREATING UNIQUELY INTENSE SONGS AND FOCUSING ON THEIR MUSIC ABOVE ALL ELSE. READ ON AS BETHANY SHADY LEARNS MORE ABOUT THIS TALENTED TRIO OF TUNE-MAKERS.
Bethany Shady: Tell me a bit about the band and how you guys came up with the name.
Ken Ramos: Well, we got together at the end of February and were trying to come up with a name. So one day we were driving down the freeway, and I was sleeping--
BS: While driving?
KR: No. (points to Jenean) She was driving. So I woke up and had thought of the name.
BS: So it just came to you in a dream?
KR: I guess, yeah. And then we looked everywhere to make sure that it wasn\'t being used.
Melissa Pleckham: When he said it, it was just kind of like, \"Yeah!\" I liked the sound of it and the spelling of it. It differentiates us from the puppy.
All: (laugh)
BS: Cool. So, you said that you met in February. I read online that you two met Jenean on Craigslist. Did you guys have to go through a lot of people to find Jenean?
MP: Actually, we only had about three drummers answer the ad, and Jenean was one of the only ones who actually showed up.
KR: We actually had several people call and say, \"Yeah, I\'m on my way. I\'ll be there in ten minutes.\" But then, like, an hour and a half later they still weren\'t there.
MP: About three different people did that. They just never showed up.
BS: Really? So, Jenean, you\'re the one who showed up.
Jenean Farris: Yeah. I like to think it\'s because I amazed them with my drumming ability.
All: (laugh)
KR: Well, other people had shown up, but they were into death metal or Jeff Beck or something like that. We were insulted, because I don\'t do guitar solos like Jeff Beck, so obviously that didn\'t work out. So Jenean showed up, was competent on the drums, didn\'t insult us, and was actually into the same music as us.
JF: Well, my side is, I hadn\'t played in a band in a while, so I just thought I\'d look on Craigslist to see if anyone was looking for a drummer. I didn\'t have a drum set because I had to sell mine when I moved back to America a couple of years ago.
BS: Where exactly were you coming back to America from?
JF: I was living in Chile, and I had to sell my really nice Ludwig set. Anyway, I wanted to be in a band, so I tried a couple of things out, but the L.A. scene just wasn\'t something I was used to. Most people here just want to make it big, and I didn\'t want to do that, necessarily. So it was a little awkward at first. But once we started playing, I felt like we meshed really well. I listened to a demo that they had done together, and got home and listened to a bit more of their stuff, and I told them, \"This is great. I\'ll give you guys a call in a few days.\" And I guess they were really scared that I wasn\'t going to call back, but I called them back a few days later to kind of play it cool.
