It’s Christmastime again, and what better way to celebrate the season than with a fresh batch of Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas action figures from NECA Toys. This year, we are treated with not one, but two series of action figures, plus a fantabulous box set featuring Oogie Boogie.
The first set is a terrific addition to the line. It contains the Harlequin Demon, Dr. Finkelstein, both the tall and short witch, and Jack in his Sandy Claws outfit, with the little boy who receives the shrunken head gift.
The second series is unfortunately a mixed bag. You do receive the Wolfman and the Cyclops, which are a couple of great characters. Unfortunately, you receive a couple of poorly conceived variants, like additional Santa Jack and Sally figures that are almost identical to the original figures. Fortunately, the third series gives you some fantastic accessories. You even get some of Santa’s elves!
The Oogie box set caps off everything in style. Oogie is huge and painted bright green, just like he appears in black light. He is complimented quite nicely by part of his roulette wheel, with two giant cards with posable arms.
The two useless remake figures aside, these toys are fine additions to NECA’s The Nightmare Before Christmas line. In the future, I really hope NECA keeps the rehashing to a minimum. There are so many great characters that could be made, including Jack in different costumes. A Pumpkin King figure would be absolutely amazing. Here’s hoping we see more from this great toy line.
