The start of a new year is always a great time to reflect on the past year\'s offerings and pick my absolute favorite toy line. However, this article might read more like an obituary than a typical toy column. You see, the absolute best toy line this year (and for the past few years, for that matter) has been Palisades Toys\' epic Muppets line. In 2005 we saw a lot of great additions to the terrific group of plastic characters. Unfortunately, it also saw the end of this magnificent line of toys.

Yes, the end has come. But what an end it was. Last year saw some of the most incredible items produced for the Muppet line: the gigantically huge Sweetums action figure; the incredibly cool Jim Henson puppet toy; the biggest playset in the series: the backstage set. We even received the last member of The Electric Mayhem (Lips, the trumpet player), and Sam the Eagle the way God intended: naked.

But, there\'s a bittersweet side to all of this. The final series wasn’t even released in stores. Palisades broke up the set and sold them as exclusives, most of them only available via the Internet. This made them much more difficult to attain. That fact aside, it just seemed wrong to me. It was a very unceremonious way to end one of the best action figure lines of all-time-- the toy line that put Palisades on the map. I haven’t seen a finale this poorly executed since the final episode of Seinfeld.

It might not have come to fruition as I would have liked, but Palisades\' Muppet figures were still the best stuff I bought in 2005. I am sad that the Fraggle Rock figures that were planned to be released will probably never see the light of day. Hopefully, Palisades will continue to give us great figures from Jim Henson’s Sesame Street characters.
