ELEANOR RIGBY (Bloomsbury USA)

This is a quietly profound book about a non-descript, well-adjusted, middle-aged woman with a macabre sense of humor who, traded security in life for simple happiness, works a cubicle job, lives in a dull condo, and drives and older model car.

No, wait. This is the story of an adopted child conceived on a sedative-laden high-school field trip to Rome, who struggles with beautiful visions of doom, who periodically goes blind or passes out at the most inopportune moments, who finds his way back into the life of his real mother after a string of weird foster families and proceeds to change her life. No, wait. This is the perfect book to devour on a Sunday afternoon while listening to music, and drinking coffee. Yes, that’s it.
