Here are my top ten CDs of 2006 in no particular order. (Actually, they\'re in aphabetical order.)
BRIGHT LIGHT FEVER – THE EVENING OWL
Lead singer Evan Ferro might sound a little like the Killers’ Brandon Flowers, but Bright Light Fever’s The Evening Owl easily surpasses Sam\'s Town (and Ferro probably isn’t the arrogant prick Flowers seems to be).
JOHNNY CASH – AMERICAN V: A HUNDRED HIGHWAYS
It may not be the Man In Black’s greatest album ever, but it still is Johnny Cash, which makes it better than almost everything else out there.
ELECTRIC SIX – SENOR SMOKE
There clearly is no shortage in the Electric Six repertoire for ridiculously awesome over the top lyrics and guitar hooks.
MC LARS – THE GRADUATE
I know it’s light, poppy and sort of dumb, but I love it anyway.
MOTH – IMMUNE TO GRAVITY
How these perfectly catchy pop/rock songs escaped constant radio play still remains a mystery to me.
THE PAPER CHASE – NOW YOU ARE ONE OF US
This may sound strange, but think of cryptic indie rock giving the reach-around to gothic, panic attack-stricken showtunes. It\'s eerie, it\'s different, and it\'s incredible.
PEACHES – IMPEACH MY BUSH
Leave it to Peaches for witty wordplay, catchy beats, and even a song dedicated to “The Shocker.”
SONIC YOUTH – RATHER RIPPED
25 years since their inception, and they still sound amazing.
TSU SHI MA MI RE – BRAIN-A-LA-MODE / LOVE & PEACE & BOU
This all girl Japanese band’s “Air Control & Remote Control” might be the catchiest song I’ve heard all year, and it’s not even in English.
YEAH YEAH YEAHS – SHOW YOUR BONES
Not that my opinion really matters, but for my money (of which I have none) this is the best band making music right now.
