THE GAMITS - ANTIDOTE

You know how there are those albums you love, but you can’t quite put your finger on the exact reason why? This is that damn album! I love it. These bastards follow me around everywhere and sing to me all the time. I can’t get them to go away.
Antidote has aspects of punk, indie, and hard rock, and is as addictive as methamphetamines. The Denver, Colorado-based trio has been around in one form or another since 1995. Extensive touring has made them quite the phenomenon in Japan and Italy, but we won’t hold that against them. They are still a great band.

THE ENVY CORPS - SOVIET REUNION

These guys have been compared to Radiohead, The Flaming Lips, and Coldplay, to name a few with which I would definitely agree. They are deserving of that status.
It will be interesting to see how these guys progress from one album to the next. The songs on Soviet Reunion are well-written, thought-provoking, and addictive; an amazing debut album by a damn fine band.

THE STARLITE DESPERATION - VIOLATE A SUNDAE

Never in my life would I have imagined a band could use the phrase \"violate a sundae\" in a song and make it sound cool. But Detroit-based The Starlite Desperation managed to do just that.
They sound a little like The Stooges and The Bauhaus, with a bit of The Cramps thrown in for good measure. And, man, has it been such a long time since I have heard anything remotely close to this!
The only downfall is the fact that Violate A Sundae is only an EP. I want more, damnit!

OVAL-TEEN - YORKVILLE, IL

Oval-Teen was a small-hearted indie-pop band, equal parts Sonic Youth, Ramones-inspired punk, and Ventures-style surf, topped with a heapin\' helpin\' of The Beach Boys.
Based out of-- you guessed it-- Yorkville, Illinois, Oval-Teen has actually been disbanded since 1999. Bi-Fi Records has released this nice 55-song double-disc set of early stuff, demos, and unreleased tracks.
Overall, the discs aren’t bad. But after a while, the drastic style jumps will make you want to stab your loved ones with a pencil.

FOLLY - INSANITY LATER

I won’t say I love this album, but it is definitely interesting. I would consider it to be the perfect soundtrack for a perfectly shitty day. I don’t mean that in a bad way; just the opposite, actually.
Their mix of hardcore, ska, metal, and punk help a person progress through the various stages of being pissed. Basically, it is a well-constructed vehicle of aggression with strategically placed ska breaks.
I would not recommend this to anyone stuck in traffic, but it is perfect for an afternoon of beating up old people and sledgehammering puppies.

MARIO WINANS - HURT NO MORE

Oh, Mario Winans... you make me feel so sad. I’m really getting very tired of writing negative reviews, and I was determined to write a positive one this month. You look like a nice young man; I saw your photo on the cover of your new album, Hurt No More. And I don’t want to hurt you; I really don’t. I was ready to take on the persona of a peace-loving Fphatty but, damn, you make it hard, because it turns out you can’t sing. Not only that, but it seems you can’t write or sample music very well, either.

VARIOUS ARTISTS - WARPED TOUR 2004 COMPILATION

Let me tell you something: If my unfairly pale ass can stand outside under the hot summer sun and burn through bottle after bottle of sunscreen so I don’t turn a lovely shade of Recession Red, you can, too. Your reason: Warped Tour 2004.
Punk rock in spirit, punk-plus in musical selection, the Vans-sponsored road show takes to outdoor venues all across the country this summer. Who’s playing? Leave that to SideOneDummy Records.
