AZURE RAY - HOLD ON LOVE

Azure Ray's sound has grown in intensity with more powerful guitar chord strikes and stronger drum beats, fitting their more dramatic lyrics. These powerful females from the ever-growing Saddle Creek label have borrowed sounds and combined them to make a memorable new album, Hold On Love.

PLASTIKMAN - CLOSER

Is it just me, or is there certain music out there that is seasonal? I’m not talking about Christmas tunes during Winter, or any shit like that. I’m talking about how bands like Portishead just sound better in the Fall than they do in any other season. It’s cold, dark, rainy music. And it is quite possibly my favorite type of music to listen to: Fall music.
So I was happy when I got Plastikman’s newest offering, Closer, to review. And, oddly enough, it is cold, dark, and rainy outside today. Word!

KID KOALA - NUFONIA MUST FALL

Over the years, I've really grown fond of Kid Koala. I love his music more and more with each listen; the minimalism of it, the complete and utter lack of what most DJ music is expected to be, leaves me wanting more. So, you could imagine my excitement when old Vinnie Baggadonuts told me how he was releasing a trade paperback graphic novel with a new CD.
Nufonia Must Fall is the tragic tale of a newly-unemployed robot who falls in love with an over-stressed, over-worked woman. I honestly do not want to say any more than that, as I believe I've already given too much away.

ESTRADASPHERE - QUADROPUS

Team Clermont Publicity, who has a PR sweetheart named Becki Carr, used to send us some ripe ones. Let me rephrase that, actually: They just didn't send me stuff I dug. But in recent months they have surprised me with a few gems. And, damn, they've done it again.
Now, I have to admit, I judged this CD by its cover. Quadropus, by Santa Cruz's Estradasphere, features some pretty scary artwork, and, at first, "Yikes!" flashed through my brain. Then I put it in my stereo.

TRACY MORGAN SIGNS ON TO RUIN THE LORAX

HOLLYWOOD, CA - DreamWorks Pictures, not content with destroying only two of Dr. Seuss’ classic children’s books, has decided to cast comedian Tracy Morgan in their new screen abomination, The Lorax.
Morgan, who is moderately funny as the character "Astronaut Jones" on the otherwise horrific Saturday Night Live, is excited about the possibilities of completely raping the literary masterpiece to death.

TOY REVIEW: STEPHEN HAWKING INACTION FIGURE

Last month, my wildest dreams were answered in the creation of one hell of a marvelous action figure: Stephen Hawking. Finally, the most intelligent man of our time has been recognized for his achievements in science, and has been transformed into a fine addition to the Simpson's action figure line.
Wow, is he the coolest! Now Stephen can not only discuss his open inflation theory of our universe, but also fight crime with his extendo-boxing glove and helicopter rocket chair under the mantle of "Hawking 2.0".

TOY REVIEW: GREMLINS

How do those rules go again? Oh, yeah. Don't get it wet; keep it away from bright light; and never take a weekend vacation to Cancun with it, because it will leave you penniless in a gutter with a sore ass. I'm talking, of course, about Gremlins. You know, that holiday classic about the little green monsters who kill little old ladies and explode in microwaves. Well, it took 18 years, but the Gremlins are finally causing mischief in action figure form, thanks to the good people from NECA.

READING BETWEEN THE PANELS

I’m big enough to admit it; I bit off more than I could chew this time. The whole plan for this month’s column was to take you through this diary-style tour chronicling my search for decent web comics. We’d go hour by hour, seeing where I was at, and even have some humorous interludes with stories about ham sandwiches.
