TIM DELUXE - THE LITTLE GINGER CLUB KID
admin
22 December 2023
Sometimes there is this internal struggle that exists between being nice and being honest. Well, I’ve decided to be nice and honest.
The Little Ginger Club Kid is terrible. I gave the album multiple chances in different situations (driving, painting, rock climbing, juggling flaming chinchillas, etc.), and the verdict was always the same: It’s an album only suitable for deaf people.
Actually, I take that back... kind of. This album, with its straightforward, generic techno-pop beats, would be acceptable in a low-rent dance club atmosphere, I guess.

TWO GALLANTS - THE THROES
admin
22 December 2023
Whenever I see a two-man band, I immediately think The White Stripes or The Black Keys. That’s what happens when duos are an anomaly, and a duo of duos becomes rather popular. So, when Two Gallants fell into my mailbox, composed of two members, the White Stripes/Black Keys comparisons came to mind. Then I noticed they were on Alive Records, a label that also once nurtured The Black Keys. And they were produced by Jeff Saltzman, who also once produced, you guessed it, The Black Keys.

TEARGAS & PLATEGLASS - TEARGAS & PLATEGLASS
admin
22 December 2023
Imagine waking up, your bed in the middle of a charred, smoking field somewhere in the middle of war-ravaged Bosnia. Everything\'s grey. NATO planes fly overhead, opening fire on small pockets of the surrounding city. Brick buildings are blown apart. Cars are on fire. The only thing you hear are the blackbirds watching the dead, and music that sounds something like the dark love child of DJ Shadow\'s Dark Days work, and Godspeed You Black Emperor!\'s f# a# oo.

NINJAS DON'T FADE AWAY
admin
22 December 2023
Ninjas never fade quietly away
Into the calm night.
For the strong, proud, badass ninja, that just
Doesn’t seem alright.
While ninjas are quite silent assassins,
And pass unnoticed,
They ain’t wanna get all feeble and old.
That’s shit, truth be told.
Ninjas live really big, exciting lives,
Though in the shadows.
But they are people with people’s needs, and
Live it up like hos.
Ain’t no way a ninja would fade away
When it’s his last day.
Like Jon Bon Jovi,
Ninjas go down in a blaze of glory.
Into the calm night.
For the strong, proud, badass ninja, that just
Doesn’t seem alright.

CANCER TOPS MOST HATED DISEASE LIST
admin
22 December 2023
ATLANTA, GA - In the latest polls, cancer has pulled ahead of AIDS and Alzheimer\'s to become the world\'s most hated disease.
A spokesperson for cancer, Mr. Winston Marlboro, responded, \"Yeah. It’s a helluva disease. People... well, people hate it.\"
Noted poll analyst, Jake Darrow, stated, \"There were some write-in comments, as well. One in particular that stood out was: \'I wish cancer would get AIDS.\'\" Shaking his head, Darrow keenly observed, \"That can’t be good.\"
Cancer did not return our calls for a response at press time.

THE VEILS - THE RUNAWAY FOUND
admin
22 December 2023
The Veils are musically similar in style to Coldplay, Starsailor, and Rufus Wainwright. Singer/guitarist Finn Andrews\' (son of XTC/Shreikback keyboardist Barry Andrews) singing style is a cool cross between Neil Diamond and Jeff Buckley. This is an impressive debut by a great band. It is unbelievably catchy, fluid, and well-written. A definite must have for fans of melodic indie rock.

THE SLEEPY JACKSON - THE RAVE, MILWAUKEE
admin
22 December 2023
On April 14th, 2004, Night Watchman and I descended from the dark peaks of the terrifying Mount Watchman (right next to Snake Mountain) to attend a concert by none other than The Sleepy Jackson. We\'d reviewed their latest CD, Lovers, and both dug it. So a live experience sounded like a swell idea to us.

SHIT YOU NEED
admin
22 December 2023
I\'ll tell you what you need; you need to recognize. Recognize what? The power of music. Corny as that might sound, ain\'t nothin\' more true. Politicians may have the power to pass laws, but they don’t have the power to make the people listen. Chuck D does. Zach de la Rocha does. Hell, Bad Religion\'s made a lifetime out of it. Travel back in time, and you’ll see a whole slew of names whose music did more than shake an ass or two.

SAIGON - WARNING SHOTS
admin
22 December 2023
When I see dudes scowling on their album covers or in pictures, I prejudge and expect the same tired \"gangsta\" beats and rhymes about being hard, completely void of creativity. I know when I’m wrong, though, and this is one of those times.
Saigon gets big props for having a sense of humor, and being a little more inventive than most of the other \"hard\" rappers rhyming today. I mean, seriously, he kicks Warning Shots off with \"Favorite Thingz\" (co-produced with Cochise), parodying that song from The Sound Of Music. (To maintain my dignity, I had to look that up.)

TODD RUNDGREN - LIARS
admin
22 December 2023
Todd Rundgren is back with an album called Liars. It\'s not so much a concept album, as it is just based on a theme: the truth. Throughout, Todd takes on liars in every form, from male/female relations to music to God. It’s his first album in a decade, but it-- like everything else Todd does-- is timeless.
