I don’t know about any of you, but for me, even a movie with the best story in the world will turn into a stinker if the special effects attempted are poorly handled. Lately, that would be the result of bad computer-generated effects. With the recent surge in the competency of the technology (I’m sure everyone here except Wayne has seen The Lord of the Rings or Pirates of the Caribbean), you would expect that every movie would strive to make their effects flow as seamlessly into and out of their films as humanly possible.

What a beautiful, beautiful record; a sweet, human, beautiful record. Categorizing this would be foolish. It’s just good music. Let that be its category.

Ah,.. the feel-good movie of the year is here! Watch Sarah Polley play a 23-year-old mother of two dying of stomach cancer for two hours! PASS THE POPCORN, DUDES!
Don’t be mad at me for that “spoiler” in the last paragraph. I’m not giving away anything that the trailer doesn’t. That’s what the movie is about. Polley plays Ann, a young woman who got knocked-up at 17 by the first boy she ever kissed. She lives with him and their daughters in a trailer in her mom’s backyard, and works nights as a janitor. She seems pretty happy, all things considered. Maybe it’s because she’s Canadian.

I had heard Goldfrapp before I received their single for the song “Twist” (from their newest album Black Cherry), but, to be honest, I really couldn’t tell you if they were good or bad, if I liked them or not, or even compare them to anyone. But, after listening to this CD, I know one of their songs REALLY WELL.
Weighing in at only six songs, and featuring four different remixes of “Twist”, Goldfrapp has infected my ears. Do I love the music? No, not really. Do I hate it? Nope. CAN I GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD?!? Again, no.

Man, what’s up with all of these bands I used to listen to in the late-'90s coming back with new stuff? Is the time period from 1995-1999 already “retro”? Well, The Crystal Method is back with their third full-length album titled Legion of Boom. Now, let me tell you a tale: I used to love these guys. Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland’s first album, Vegas, is one of my all-time favorites. But when their sophomore album, Tweekend, came and went without much hype or notice from the public, I knew why. The whole “scene” of techno was dead.

Okay. Back in 1997, I believe, I went to a Porno For Pyros show. It was word. Loved every minute of it. But before Perry and the kids took the stage, I was pleasantly surprised by a little group known as Fun Lovin’ Criminals. After the show, my friend The Goon and I went out and purchased their debut album, Come As Yourself. It was pretty cool, mixing rock and rap WAY back before Kid Rock was sucking his mother’s dick.*
