THE SLACKERS' VIC RUGGIERO

NOT A DAY GOES BY THAT I DON'T PLAY A SLACKERS RECORD. I'M HOOKED. NINE YEARS AGO, I HEARD A SONG CALLED "SISTER, SISTER", AND HAVEN'T STOPPED LISTENING SINCE. RECORD AFTER RECORD, THEY TRUMP THEIR PREVIOUS EFFORTS, EXCELLING BOTH AS MUSICIANS AND SONGWRITERS. AND SEEING THEM LIVE IS SOME OF THE BEST FUN YOU'LL EVER HAVE. I'VE SEEN THEM FILL AN EMPTY DANCE FLOOR IN A MATTER OF MINUTES. AND STANDING AT THE MICROPHONE, POUNDING THE KEYS, AND SINGING THE STORIES, IS THE ONE AND ONLY VIC RUGGIERO.
Vinnie: The new record is beautiful, man.

ISAAC ADAMSON

ISAAC ADAMSON IS THE AUTHOR OF THE BILLY CHAKA BOOK SERIES: TOKYO SUCKERPUNCH, HOKKAIDO POPSICLE, AND DREAMING PACHINKO. WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY ABOUT? HE EXPLAINS ALL IN THIS INTERVIEW WITH CHAKA FAN AND CHICKENHEAD, D.J. KIRKBRIDE.
D.J.: I live in Milwaukee, and we've got butter burgers out here. You ever had those?
Isaac: (laughs) I have. Only once. I was up in Milwaukee for a wedding, and we stopped for some on the way back.
D: I just had some, and I'm in pain.

JASON LEE - THE 2ND INTERVIEW

IN 1996 PRO SKATER JASON LEE STEPPED AWAY FROM SKATING AND HIS BUSINESS, STEREO SKATEBOARDS, TO PURSUE AN ACTING CAREER IN HOLLYWOOD. FINDING HIS GROOVE IN KEVIN SMITH FILMS, JASON QUICKLY BECAME A HOUSEHOLD NAME, NOW KNOWN PRIMARILY FOR HIS SECOND CAREER. BUT OVER THE YEARS HE HAS BECOME NOSTALGIC FOR THOSE DAYS OF OLD. SO IT WAS APPROPRIATE WHEN HE DECIDED TO REEMBRACE THE WORLD OF SKATING AND START UP STEREO SKATEBOARDS ONCE MORE. JASON DISHES THE DIRT TO WAYNE IN HIS SECOND INTERVIEW WITH TASTES LIKE CHICKEN.

A STATIC LULLABY - AND DON'T FORGET TO BREATHE

A Static Lullaby is the textbook example of the benefits of ADD. They bounce from screams to shouts to melody, leaping from genre to genre landing. They stop on a dime for a split second-- only to dive headfirst into another attack.
There are bits and pieces of At the Drive-In mixed in with some emo-core at times. But somehow it all works.

DEVIL GOT RELIGION, PART 2

TO THE VALLEY BELOW - DAY THREE
It was Sunday for some reason.
We drove slowly through the old part of Elk City, where the brick buildings neatly crowd the sides of the streets. It was so desolate and quiet and unreal. Mainly, it was unreal, because Alex and I had been here once this year already-- and how real can it possibly be that you'd be back in Elk City within a few months of each other-- or ever, for that matter?
Well, I'll let you in on a little secret about that particular town.

READING BETWEEN THE PANELS

Last week I had the pleasure of watching Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai for the first time. As you can expect, I was blown away not only by the action, but by the depth of character, the drama, and the overall scale of the film. I’ve come across classic movies from time to time, but have never seen anything American that even comes close to the emotional roller coaster that is Seven Samaurai.

IMA ROBOT - PUBLIC ACCESS

Ima Robot swoops out of the fog of the early 1980s-- a memory of the past, playing videos of the future on Betamax. Parts of Public Image Ltd., Enon, The Cars, and Prick swirl together like buses crashing in the darkness of a place with no time. They meet for cups of coffee at roadside diners that haven't changed in decades. They clash and careen into one another, pushing each other closer to the edge of modern rock, only to shove back the other way, drowning in nostalgia and retro waterfalls.

TOM FOOLERY AND THE MISTAKES - TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM

Straight outta tastes like chicken's old hometown of Columbus, Ohio comes Tom Foolery & The Mistakes with Take One for the Team! Now, I'm not sure if Entertainmental section guru Vinnie Baggadonuts wanted me to review this or if he had already written a review and thought I'd just like it. I think he just gave it to me for my listening pleasure.
Uh,.. hold on.
Okay, I asked my roommate, Night Watchman, and he thinks Vinnie just gave it to me for my listening enjoyment. So I don't need to be writing this review. Vinnie already did one. Hmph.
