Gateway drugs are, supposedly, a relatively harmless drug that starts a descent into harder drugs or increased frequency of use of the beginner drug. Some people see cigarettes as gateway drugs; for others, it's pot. I think the term "gateway drug" can be used to refer to other mediums, including cinema.

Ever wonder what the Rat Pack's popularity would have been like, had the Internet existed back in their heyday? Sure, they would've been able to reach even larger audiences. But they also might have had some competition. As it stands, they're the only Rat Pack I know of. But what if there was a group of young male hooligans performing at Brown Derbys and Holiday Inns all across Vermont? Or Pennsylvania? Back then, no one could outshine the glow of Sinatra, Martin, and the like. But if the Internet existed, maybe they'd have had a fighting chance.

Not only that, but the sexy kids at Side One Dummy Records have put out a teaser compilation of this year's roster, so you can get familiar with the bands before you get there, and look like you're really down with the punk scene.

Never in a million years will a hard rock CD ever make me want to get my fuck on more than the aptly-titled Fire by Electric Six. Any time you’re at home for a quiet evening with your lady, just pop in this disk, and it will turn into an Inferno of Freakage.

Rock 'n' roll has been turned on its head the last few years. Who would have thought that you could have a kick-ass band comprised of only two people like the White Stripes? How minimalist can it go? Man is here to answer that question.

This review is going to be brutal, because these fuckers have already pissed me off. The press release for The Black Watch's disc, Very Mary Beth, says: "The sound has been compared to indie rock legends The Cure and seminal band My Bloody Valentine. Fredrick's lyrics are characteristically stimulating and candid, a la Nick Drake."

When I saw the commercials for Hollywood Homicide, I was not interested at all. I was sure Harrison Ford had completely lost it. He'd become an old man, pooping his pants and such. Depressing. The movie looked like just another in a long line of bad choices by the formerly awesome movie hero. Ford as the grizzled old veteran cop, and the not-so-pretty pretty boy Josh Hartnett as the rookie. And it had something to do with the rap music industry. I figured we'd have the "old-rookie-shoved-on-the-veteran-partner" shit, and, at first, they don't like each other.

After Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, lil' Ang Lee can do whatever he wants, I guess. So now he's doing the third Marvel Comics movie of the year. And, like every major Marvel movie to date, this one has the obligatory "traveling-through-the-human-body-in-CG-synapses-'n'-shit" montage. Gettin' old, man! Gettin' old. Everyone who really wanted to see the movie will have no doubt seen it before this review hits the Internet, but I've been moved to write.
