THE MAROONS - AMBUSH
If you are into any of the Quannum kids, chances are you already know about The Maroons. Made up of Latryx\'s Lateef the Truth Speaker and Blackalicious\' Chief Xcel, The Maroons are offering up Ambush (Quannum) this month, a mini-LP that is the precursor to their upcoming full-length, Ashe. And I have to tell you, if Ambush is representative of a tenth of what Ashe is going to be, Ashe may very well be the best fucking album ever.

LO-FI MAGAZINE
LO-FI is the magazine I would\'ve created if I had money. It covers the pop culture I actually care about: indie comics, anime, video games, and fannish-type movies. So far, LO-FI has managed to swing interviews with comic greats Brian Pulido, Skottie Young and Jim Mahfood.

LAYTON - GRAND DESIGN
Deborah Harry, Adam Ant, David Byrne, Adrian Belew and David Bowie sit, eyes closed, holding hands around a black and white checkerboard-patterned table that is spattered with bright pink, yellow, and aqua. Behind each of them is a large Robert Nagel painting framed with neon. It is 1980. They are deep in concentration, chanting something about \"future music\" under their breath. Suddenly music starts to play. It sounds like the Talking Heads, but it is no song that David Byrne has ever heard before.

UROBOROS
A drop of sweat on the tip of his nose falls without a sound.

KYLIE MINOGUE - BODY LANGUAGE LIVE
Kylie Minogue may look like a superficial model who has gotten by on her looks, but her new DVD, Body Language Live, proves that there is a lot more substance to her than... sorry. Couldn’t keep a straight face any longer. This thing is the pits! Okay, seriously, did I miss something? Is Kyle Minogue really somebody? I thought people only sort of knew who she was because of that lousy “Locomotion” cover years ago.

POETIC DESTINATION
Like the needle hits the groove
The bristles sweep and move
Beautiful and perfect with each and every stroke
My conscious broke
As I awoke
And stumbled back into an artless society
These mindless drones scream of bigotry
While artists dream of symmetry
The writer dreams of poetry
And the poets dream of eternity
Eternity is just a glance past reality
Really, I just love to play
And dance amongst the stars
Far beyond the reach of heaven
I’m spitting philosophies in the form of a line

JACK IRONS - ATTENTION DIMENSION
Recognize the name Jack Irons? You should, because he\'s had a hand in a few of the most influential bands of the Nineties. If you are or ever were a fan of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, or Joe Strummer, chances are you have heard Jack\'s work. Having served as drummer for those bands-- among others, like Neil Young and Eleven-- Jack is now ready to try his hand at something a little different: his first solo full-length album, Attention Dimension.

ILE AIYE (THE HOUSE OF LIFE)
In 1989, ex-Talking Heads frontman David Byrne released Ilé Aiyé, an impressionistic art film/documentary on Candomblé, the African spirit cult of the Bahia region of Brazil. Now, 15 years later, Plexifilm has released the film on DVD.

TYPO
I’m not supposed to be here. Everyone says that, I know, but in my case it’s true. Slogging through the jungle of some godforsaken country I’d never really heard of until our president decided they were evil and needed to be stopped. I don’t know. I don’t really have any interest in trying to figure out why I’m here. I know why: someone didn’t proofread their work.

THE HUNCHES - HOBO SUNRISE
One of the few things that I miss about Columbus, Ohio, besides the friends I left behind, is a little place called Bernie’s Distillery. Buried in a dirty basement, Bernie\'s sold bagels during the day on one side, and at night, barely contained the crashing guitars and screaming vocal chords of bands playing on the other. You were guaranteed to see a few good bands every time you set foot in the place. You were also guaranteed to see and smell things you\'d never experienced before under that low ceiling of sticker-plastered exposed pipes.
