VIEW FROM THE TOP

I may have breasts, but I’d hardly call myself a feminist,.. or even a woman, for that matter. However, even I can see View from the Top for what it is: a smack in the face to free women everywhere. Yes, believe it or not, this picture not only smells worse than last month’s garbage, but also manages to set the way women are perceived and treated back to the Stone Age.

WATERDOWN'S THE FILES YOU HAVE ON ME

22 December 2023
Trimming my pubes in the bathroom, I began to plan my review of a disc Vinnie threw in my lap about three weeks ago. The disc was playing in the background, and I would occasionally put down the scissors to jot down a note or two based on what I’d heard. This was now my fifth time through the album, and I was finally beginning to discover why I was having so much of a problem sitting down to do this. Originally, I attempted to give the tastes like chicken audience an in-depth look at who Waterdown was.

STEPHEN LYNCH

Stephen Lynch does what Adam Sandler wishes he could do. He writes funny songs. His latest disc, Superhero, is a live album that showcases his folk/funny tunes. The inclusion of improv and audience reactions make this album better than his previous release, A Little Bit Special, which got bogged down by lame bits between songs. Superhero is much more cohesive, featuring all-new, tighter material. He gets to the joke quickly, and gets out before it gets stupid (SNL cast, pay attention).

DREAMCATCHER

Ass-weasels, shit-slugs, butt-maggots,.. whatever you want to call them, believe me-- you don\'t want this little virus! Dreamcatcher is the latest attempt to put Stephen King up there on the big screen. We\'ve got some creepy elements working for us in this flick, like the aforementioned ass-weasels. We\'ve got alien spores that no amount of Valtrex could clear up. We\'ve got Stand By Me flashbacks of childhood friends helping out a strange little kid named Duddits. We\'ve got these grown-up friends using strange powers like mind reading and key finding (oh,.. scary).

ANGER MANAGEMENT

I went to see Adam Sandler’s new movie, Anger Management, the other day, and it was great. However, the experience itself left something to be desired. It started with the slow, but steady kicking of the back of my seat. THUD! THUD! THUD! I turned to see a five-year-old swinging his feet. Let the fact that a five-year-old was at a PG-13 movie at 11:30 at night pass. I kindly asked him to stop, at which point he gave me the finger and started to kick even harder.

ZEROMANCER

I\'ve been going to shows now for so long now, I can remember when they were still in black-and-white. Out of all those shows, I can count the number of bands that have impressed me enough live to make me buy their CD on one hand. The United Tour hit The Newport a couple weeks ago and I initially went to see Bile (whose new disc, The Copy Machine, features covers of The Who, The Go-Go\'s, and Faith No More) and Martin Atkins\' industrial supergroup, Pigface. I knew My Life With The Thrill Kill Cult would be bad. They were awful years ago, and they’re even worse now.

FREAK FILMS: BIG BAD LOVE
admin
22 December 2023
Big Bad Love is more of an experience than it is a film. It’s as personal as a photograph, or curling up with a favorite novel. Based on the stories of Larry Brown, it is simply one of the most amazing films I\'ve seen in a quite awhile. Writer/director/star Arliss Howard has filmed the inside of a man’s consciousness-- sounds overlap; we switch in and out of states of being; words trigger memories, and memories are tied into stories. Big Bad Love is about storytelling.

VOICE FROM THE LONGBOX

In times like these I could really use a laugh. Strangely enough, for the thousands of comics that live in my house, very few are actually \"comical\". However, I can name dozens of comics that consistently made me laugh or smile. Marvel\'s parody books, like the Fred Hembeck one-shots or the What The?! series, reside in my collection with key John Byrne She Hulk issues, and the truly classic Not Brand Ecch. Pre-Crisis appearances by Bizarro and Mister Mxyzptlk were always a hoot.

TOMAHAWK AND MEDESKI, MARTIN & WOOD

Wayne: You know how we always used to have to drive to Cleveland or Cincinnati to see shows?
Debbie: Yeah! That sucks arse! Good stuff rarely comes to Columbus.
W: Bite your tongue, Debbie. It seems as if the kids that control booking for The Newport have two sweet-ass shows lined up.
D: Two?!? Surely, you jest! What are they? A Village People Reunion, two nights, back to back?
